City Commission Meeting Update - October 24, 2023

City Commission Update 10_24_23

On Tuesday, October 24th, the Liberal City Commission addressed the following items during their regularly scheduled meeting:

Consent Agenda items (airport leases, Planning & Zoning meeting minutes, code enforcement report, Convention & Tourism Bureau meeting minutes) were approved by the Commission.

The Commission opened a public hearing appeal following Resolution No. 2400 for the demolition of a sub-standard structure in the 800 block of North Pennsylvania Ave. Following discussion, the Commission gave consensus to continue the public hearing to the November 28th, 2023 Commission meeting and allow time for property improvements to be made.  

Commissioners moved to pass Resolution No. 2406 authorizing City staff to add Bank of the Plains as an additional banking services provider.

The Commission voted to pass the Kansas Department of Transportation’s annual Title VI recertification for the City of Liberal’s CityBus program.

Commissioners moved to approve the final plat for the Ortuno Addition, located Northwest of the Harold Boulevard and Larabee Road intersection in Liberal.  

The meeting concluded with a discussion about the potential relocation of the emergency communications center into a designated space within the Liberal Recreation Center to provide improved protection from hazardous weather threats. Following discussion, the Commission voted to allocate ARPA grant funds not to exceed $200,000 towards the relocation of the emergency communications center into the Liberal Recreation Center building with final action contingent upon Seward County’s agreement and approval of the relocation plan.

The next regularly scheduled Liberal City Commission meeting will take place November 14th at 5:30 p.m.
